First, choose your currency — this is the only required step. Then you can optionally add your income sources and any subscriptions you're paying for; both can be skipped and added anytime later from the Dashboard. At the end, Briven asks for notification permission for a gentle weekly review reminder.

Yes — go to Settings → Currency. This changes how all amounts are displayed and entered going forward. Briven does not perform exchange-rate conversion; it simply switches the display currency.

No. Briven is intentionally a fully manual budgeting app — there is no bank connection, no CSV or OFX import, and no account linking of any kind. You enter every income source, subscription, and expense yourself.

Tap the + button from Dashboard or Transactions. Enter the amount, pick a category, optionally pick a payment method and add a memo, then save. You can create a brand-new category or payment method right from that same screen without leaving it.

A few default categories — Dining Out, Transport, Shopping — come with two subcategories each (e.g., Coffee & Cafes, Fuel & Gas). You can also create your own on any top-level category. In charts and reports, a parent category's total automatically rolls up all of its subcategories' spending; you can drill into the individual subcategory breakdown from your transaction list.

Yes — any category, including the default ones, can be deleted or edited. Past expenses tagged with a deleted category are automatically grouped under "Uncategorized"; they are never deleted along with the category.

It lets you track whether an expense was cash or a specific card. Briven starts you off with Cash, and you can add as many cards as you like from Settings → Payment Methods. Reports and Transactions show a per-method subtotal.

Go to the Income card on the Dashboard and tap it to manage your income sources. You can register as many as you like — for example, a full-time job plus freelance work — each with its own frequency: weekly, monthly, yearly, or irregular.

Choose Irregular for income that doesn't follow a fixed schedule or amount, like freelance payments. Instead of setting one fixed amount, you log each payment individually as it arrives.

Turn off its Active toggle instead of deleting it. Deactivating keeps your past monthly reports accurate — Briven never rewrites history when your income setup changes.

Up to 5 active subscriptions on the free plan. Unlimited subscription tracking is one of the features planned for the upcoming one-time lifetime purchase.

Update the amount on the subscription's edit screen. Briven detects the increase, shows "was $X" in your subscriptions list, and sends you an immediate notification so a price hike never slips by unnoticed.

Tap "This Month" on the Dashboard to open Reports. Tap any date on the calendar for a single day, or drag across it to select a range — your total and category breakdown update instantly without leaving the screen. Tap the same date again to deselect and return to the whole-month view.

If you set a monthly budget on a category (from the Categories screen), Reports shows a progress bar for it whenever you're viewing the whole month — it stays in your brand color when you're within budget and turns amber if you go over.

Yes, and it's free. Briven uses Apple's CloudKit — your own private iCloud database — to sync your data across your iPhones automatically when you're signed into iCloud. No account or subscription is required.

No. iCloud sync in Briven is single-user only — it keeps your own devices in sync with each other, not with anyone else's account. There is no shared or family sync feature; each budget stays private to you.

Go to Settings → Security → App Lock and turn it on — it's off by default. If Face ID or Touch ID fails or isn't set up, your device passcode works as a fallback.

Yes. Unlimited expense logging, income tracking, subscription tracking (up to 5), categories, payment methods, iCloud sync, and monthly Reports are all free, with no ads.
